Back To Mere Basics
As allot of small companies and entrepreneurs swamp the Internet
with new site submissions in hopes to get noticed, sell and offer
their products and services online. And all your hard work with
your new site isn’t getting the feedback you’d hope
for and maybe finding it very difficult to gain an advantage against
the trial and error backgrounds of your competitors. But most new
webmasters tend to forget about the old nostalgic fundamentals of
promoting their new website from the get go and some marketing agencies
have even done away of this real effective marketing process for
websites.
What am I talking about!?
Well for starters let your family and friends know about your new
website. Yes, I’m sure you have mentioned it from time to
time to friends and family members, but you want to take it a step
further. By modestly raving about it to your bank teller and associates,
grocery and department store cashiers, your waitress or waiter at
your favorite diner, the gas station attendant, your children's
teacher(s) and staff members, during PTA meetings and other school
events, your clergy official at church, not to mention all the other
folks that head to church during Sunday and mid-week mass.
Some webmasters will say that they do mention their site to people
while their out and about, but receive no noticeable increase in
traffic or sales. Well think of this as a basic rule of thumb. People
can be very forgetful at times and don’t always remember that
brief encounter at the department store or church. Mainly, because
most folks are to busy with every days life’s tasks, and that
need-to-do list, to remember a couple of mentionings of a new site
out there in the massive world of the Internet.
So, it’s a good thing to remember to mention it often and
with enthusiasm. You don’t have to jump up and down with joy
while mentioning your site lol, unless that’s the type of
person you are, but a solid honest smile and display of integrity
and trustworthiness about your products and services will do you
well in the long run. You don’t want to lie or stretch the
truth to potential customers about your sites' content. If they
notice from their first visit to your site that you have been dishonest
about the content on your site, then you will most likely never
create and grow a dedicated customer base or repeat visitor pool
that believe in your products or services and most importantly believe
in you. So remember you are talking to people face to face and like
that old phrase goes “Honesty is the best policy”.
How can I mention my site regularly with-out being annoying!?
This a good one and takes a little more work. There are several
ways to accomplish this with-out being a bothersome to others.
First, of all you should have made up a bunch
of business cards to pass out and if you haven’t done so yet
you should do that soon, after you read the rest of this article…
hehehe. Passing your business cards out to your regular field of
potential customers will reduce your need to perform a lengthy speech
about your site all the time. You can update your potential customers
with new products and services, while passing out your promotional
buisness cards.
Secondly, adding a magnetic ad on the side of
your vehicle while on the go is also a good way to reduce your continuous
sales pitch. Every person has their off days and that will show
through when attempting to paraphrase your new site. So, having
a magnetic ad on your car or truck while on the go, whether you're
headed to the grocery store, or spending time with your kids or
friends during a sporting event or simply taking a Sunday drive.
You can’t go wrong with magnetic ads, since the ads do all
the work for you. And if someone asks you about your website you
have the business card to hand out as well.
Thirdly, creating fliers to hand out or post up
at various locations is another way to mention your site and the
fliers will do the sales pitch work for you. Post promotional fliers
on bulletin boards, like at laundry mats, your church, at work and
other various locations that offer public bulletin board postings.
Walk the neighborhoods and post promotional fliers at other homes
in several geographical areas. If nothing else it’s like hitting
two birds with one stone. You get your message out and you get exercise
as well. Remember if a home owner has a sign that says "no
soliciting", then don’t post your fliers on their property.
Remember you don’t want to be annoying.
These are just a few mere basics to promoting your new site and
it works equally as well for already established websites. And in
my next follow-up article of ‘Back To Mere Basics’ I
will cover the use of the local newspaper, gazettes and more.
